  • Make sure your child knows their times tables –

2s, 3s, 4s 5s and 10s first, then extended to 12x12. This instant recall is essential in Year 5. We will be continuing times table recap sessions during schooltime on a Wednesday to aid the learning of these.

Summer 1 - During the second spring half term of Year 5, the children will be looking at progressing their skills in geometry. This topic mainly comprises of working with angles. Skills the children will be acquiring include: types of angles, working out missing angles, measuring angles, drawing angles as well as looking at 3D shapes and properties and angles of polygons. The class will also be looking at position and direction, this includes the translation, rotation and enlargement of 2D shapes.

Summer 2 - For the final half term of the academic year, Year 5 will be looking at decimals to begin. This includes adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals with varying decimal points. The class will also have a brief look into negative numbers and measurement in volume and converting units. These units vary from units of length and weight, to units of time.
