We are passionate that the children at Sutton Manor Community Primary School must enjoy a high quality broad and balanced and inclusive curriculum, which gives them every opportunity to apply thier knowledge, use their skills and discover their talents. An exciting and creative curriculum is essential to making learning enjoyable and relevant for the children.  It allows them to be aspirational and reach their full potential through their progress and achievements

The curriculum at Sutton Manor not only reflects the statutory requirements of the Early Years Framework and the National Curriculum, but also considers the local, national and global context in which the school stands, we have a strong sense of heritage, community and family.

Detailed curriculum overviews from Nursery to Year 6 for all National Curriculum subjects and Areas of Learning together with  medium-term planning ensures progression and high quality teaching throughout the Key Stages in all subjects. At the school’s last inspection, Ofsted stated that, “Governors explained that pupils at the school contributed to the iconic Dream sculpture that sits on the site of the old colliery. Pupils learn to understand and celebrate their heritage through the rich curriculum and close links with community groups.

Intent

The Sutton Manor Early Year’s team is dedicated to supporting and developing  young children through high quality care.  We want the best for every child and combine effective pedagogy with a broad and progressive curriculum to continually assess and review the children’s learning alongside key observation checkpoints to ensure that no child is ‘left behind’. Our emphasis on self-regulation and executive function, in conjunction with our close partnership work with parents enables the children in our care to thrive.  Our broad and exciting curriculum is based upon careful observations and interactions with the children and reflects the needs of our community.  We have a mix of adult led and child initiated learning opportunities with PSED, Communication and Language, Literacy and Outdoor Learning considered to be fundamental in all that we do. All activities are planned with the characteristics of effective learning in mind to enable children to play and explore, encounter active learning and be able to create and think critically.
