Our Intent

The intent of our PE curriculum is to provide a variety of high quality teaching and learning styles in PE lessons. Our principal aim is to develop the children’s fitness, knowledge, skills and understanding, and we do this through a mixture of whole-class teaching and individual or group activities.

Physical education and health is paramount to personal wellbeing and development and runs hand in hand with positive mental health.

Within lessons, we give the children the opportunity both to collaborate and to compete with each other, and they have the opportunity to use a wide range of resources. Our children also go swimming from years 2 to 6.

PE is supported and delivered by our sports coach, Mr Gilchrist, who runs a variety of activities linked to our curriculum progression. We also work with the coaches of the Beth Tweddle Gymnastics association. Our children compete in tournaments as part of the School Games partnership with St Helens.

We are also working in partnership with the coaches at the Saints RLFC Community Develpment Foundation to develop knowledge and skill in sport and support us with holiday activity clubs.

Our school offers a range of extra curricular sports clubs including: breakfast clubs, lunch time clubs and after school clubs.

Over the last three years, we have achieved and maintained the School Games Silver award for our commitment to sports and tournaments and in July 2022 were awarded the GOLD award!
