Hi everybody,

This is the children's final term in Sutton Manor Primary School. After the difficult year that we have had we are aiming to make it an eventful one. In English we are reading an award winning book called Skellig by David Almond and the children are learning how to write stories that are similarly mysterious. In maths we are learning valuable skills in preparation for High School such as place value, written methods, problem solving and geometry. In Science the children are learning about living things and their habitats with a focus on classification. In History the children are learning about Windrush and Civil Rights Movement, this will be complemented in a further read in English about Nelson Mandela.

The children will be completing an Arts Award during the term. This will involve outdoor learning with a focus on nature, looking at artists, sculpture, dance, poetry and music.

We will be looking at the Government guidelines carefully and aim to write and perform a concert for parents at the end of the year. We will look forward to celebrating the children's journey through the school.

There will also be High School Transition work to complete as the term progresses.

  • Homework will be sent home every Tuesday and needs to be returned on or before Friday when we will go through it in class.
  • PE kits should be worn on MONDAYS and FRIDAYS for this half term. Also there is an opportunity for the children to join a basketball club after school on a THURSDAY.
  • Reading books. As always, we expect the children to read independently at home as often as possible. Unfortunately however, we are unable to allow children to bring a book back and forth everyday. We will encourage the children to take a class book home and return it when they have finished with it. Children may also have their own books at home that they wish to read. We will continue to read every day in class and monitor the children's abilities and progress carefully.
  • Children have  a log in for Reading Plus that they can use access at home.

We thank you for your support in advance. Here are some websites to help children when learning from home:

Oak National Academy (every area of the curriculum)   (children will have their own log in)  (children have their own log in)  (writing ideas and resources)  (general resources) (science ideas and resources)

I will also be uploading many learning links on the school twitter account @primarymanor.
